Celebrating success (The Design Circus) was the opportunity for Lincolnshire Design and Technology departments to meet with like-minded colleagues and  their students to share the good practice. This event was jointly hosted by The Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Lincoln.
CfBT, The National Centre for Craft and Design and The Design and Technology Association.

The event was open to all disciplines within D&T with the objective of enabling participants to celebrate and share good practice from within their individual schools.

The day consisted of a series of exhibitions from participating schools with the opportunity for school students to review the work of their peers and be guided by a university facilitator. The day began with all the students and their teachers meeting in a lecture theatre to listen to the keynote lecture from Dave Bramston from Lincoln University speaking about the department’s vision of The Design Process who was followed by John O’Leary from Millhouse design who spoke about how a project evolves from conceptual sketches and ends up in the marketplace.

Parallel to the secondary school event was the opportunity for primary school pupils to engage in a design and make activity called The Big Toy Factory. The pupils designed their concepts and passed them to “The Toy Maker” [Kenny – The department’s chief Technician] and his colleagues who cut the shapes and assembled them before passing them pack to the school children to apply their decoration. During the day a television crew from ‘Look North’ followed the children through the whole of their design process.
This website gives a pen picture of the day which took place on 9th July 2010. Design and Technology in Lincolnshire schools is very strong, this website provides the opportunity to open-up this quality work to others. This was the first time the event had run and already plans are in place to repeat the event in 2011.
